Spectacular celebrations have been held across the globe to mark the start of 2011.

Sparkling silver rays shot out from the Burj Khalifa in a 10-minute display.In Europe, Greeks, Irish and Spaniards put their economic woes behind them and partied their problems away.
Crowds gathered in Madrid's Puerta del Sol square to take part in "Las Uvas" (The Grapes), a tradition in which people eat a grape for each of the 12 chimes of midnight.
All fireworks were banned in Burma with heavy penalties threatened against those who ignored the stipulation.
